Privacy Policy
LSV Quiz is a daily puzzle: you see a pack from one of LSV's cube draft videos and guess which card he took. This page explains what the site collects, why, and how to have it deleted. The short version: we keep what's needed to run the quiz, your streaks, and the leaderboard. We don't sell anything, show ads, or use tracking or analytics cookies.
If you play without an account
- A random player ID is created in your browser's local storage, along with a copy of your own results so the page can show your streak. It contains nothing about you.
- Your guesses for each puzzle are stored on our server under that random ID, so the site remembers what you've played and can show everyone how often each card was guessed (as anonymous totals).
If you create an account
You can sign in with Google, with Discord, or with an email address and password. We store:
- Your display name, which you choose. It is public: it appears on the leaderboard next to your streaks and points, unless you choose "Hide me from the leaderboard" in your account settings.
- Your email address. With Google or Discord sign-in, we receive the email on that account and whether it's verified. With email sign-up, it's the address you enter. We use it to identify your account, and to link a Google and a Discord sign-in that share the same verified email. We don't show it to anyone.
- Your Google or Discord account ID, so the same account signs you in next time. From Google we ask only for your basic profile (name), email, and ID. From Discord we ask for your username, email, and ID. We don't access anything else on those accounts, and we don't post anything to them.
- A password hash, if you sign up with email. We never store the password itself. It is salted, peppered, and hashed with PBKDF2.
- Your plays and stats: your guesses on each puzzle, when you made them, points, and streaks. If you played on this browser before signing in, those plays move to your account.
- Sign-in housekeeping: when you signed up and last signed in, and a count of recent failed password attempts (to lock out password guessing for a few minutes).
- Your mailing-list choice. The "Email me occasional LSV Quiz news" box is ticked when you create an account; untick it if you don't want news. We email you news only while it's on, and you can turn it off in your account settings at any time.
Cookies
We set one cookie when you sign in: lq_session, which keeps you signed in for up to 180 days. A second, short-lived cookie (lq_oauth, 15 minutes) protects the Google or Discord sign-in step. Neither is used for tracking or advertising. Signing out removes the session cookie.
Services that see your requests
- Cloudflare hosts the site and its database. Like any web host it processes your IP address and requests to serve the site and protect it from abuse, and keeps short-lived request logs.
- Scryfall (cards.scryfall.io) serves the card images, and Google Fonts serves the fonts, so your browser fetches files from them directly.
- Google or Discord, if you choose to sign in with them, under their own privacy policies.
- YouTube, only when you click a link to one of LSV's videos.
We don't sell or rent personal information, and we don't share it with anyone except as needed to run the site (as above) or when the law requires it.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your account and plays until you ask us to delete them. Email privacy@lsvquiz.com from the address on your account (or tell us your display name and how you sign in), and we'll delete your account, email, and plays. Anonymous guess totals for each puzzle stay, since they can't be tied back to you. You can also ask for a copy of what we hold about you.
Children
LSV Quiz isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and its effective date. For significant changes affecting account holders, we'll note them on the site.
